The play “Dastarkhan” continues the series “Grandmother Aizhan’s Tales.” This is the third production in the series, conceived and dedicated to the President’s program “Rukhani Zhangyru.” Through these performances, children are introduced to the daily life and traditions of the Kazakh people.
The first play in the series, “Grandmother Aizhan’s Tales,” told the story of how Kazakhs processed wool and the items made from it for use in the yurt. The second play, “The Living Ornament,” explained how ornamentation became an essential part of Kazakh life. The third play, “Dastarkhan,” is devoted to household utensils in the Kazakh yurt. The everyday life of the Kazakhs was highly organized, with nothing superfluous — the nomadic way of life required practicality and compactness.
In this fairy tale, the dishes begin to argue over who is the most important and essential, leaving the hosts without dinner. How can they be reconciled? Grandmother Aizhan brings peace among them with her wise story.
Duration: 35 minutes
Age category: 5–10 years
The performance is in Russian.
